Le LION, ou Lower Indian Ocean Network, est un câble sous-marin en cours d'installation par France Télécom dans le sud-ouest de l'océan Indien. Il doit relier, à moyen terme, Madagascar à l'île Maurice en passant par La Réunion. Ce faisant, il doublera le SAFE entre les deux îles des Mascareignes et connectera la Grande Île à cet autre câble qui jusqu'ici l'évitait, mettant un terme à sa dépendance aux liaisons satellitaires. Il sera ensuite prolongé de Madagascar à Mombasa, au Kenya, en desservant Mayotte au passage. Un prolongement de Maurice à l'Asie est par ailleurs envisagé. Composé de quatre fibre optiques, le LION touche terre, à La Réunion et Maurice, à Sainte-Marie et Terre Rouge respectivement.
