Lorenzino da Bologna
Lorenzo Sabbatini dit Lorenzino da Bologna (Bologne, 1530 - Rome, 1577) est un peintre italien maniériste de la Renaissance.
Biographie
Il étudie auprès de Prospero Fontana, son maître puis son collaborateur. Son style est influencé par Giorgio Vasari et le maniérisme émilien de Parmigianino.
Il visite Rome pendant la papauté de Grégoire XIII (1502-1585) ; il s'approche de l'école de peinture de Raphaël, qu'il imite sans en être membre. Il est embauché par le Vatican pour des peintures de la Chapelle Paoline (avec Federico Zuccari) et dans la Sala Regia, où il exécute son chef-d'œuvre : Le Triomphe de la Foi sur l'Infidélité, qui lui valent la satisfaction du pape qui le nomme superintendant des décorations du Vatican.
Retourné ensuite à Bologne, entre 1566 et 1572, il décore de nombreuses églises comme Santa Maria delle Grazie, Chiesa della Morte, San Martino Maggiore et San Giacomo.
Le graveur Giulio Bonasone et le peintre hollandais Denis Calvaert furent de ses élèves.
