La London Assembly (« Assemblée de Londres ») est l'assemblée élue du Greater London Authority, et qui contrôle les activités du Maire de Londres, et a le pouvoir grâce à une majorité des deux tiers de modifier le budget annuel adopté par le maire. Cette assemblée a été créée en 2000 et siège à l'Hôtel de ville de Londres (« City Hall »).

Outre le fait qu'une fois par mois, elle questionne le maire lors de ses sessions publiques, l'assemblée a également le pouvoir d'enquêter sur des questions importantes pour les londoniens, ainsi que de publier ses conclusions et recommandations, ou de faire des propositions au maire.

Composition

L'Assemblée de Londres se compose de 25 membres élus selon le système mixte. Les élections ont lieu tous les quatre ans - en même temps que celles servant à désigner le maire. Chacune des 14 circonscriptions élit un député, tandis que les 11 autres membres sont élus sur une liste de parti au prorata des voix que chaque liste a obtenu sur l'ensemble de Londres, sachant qu'un parti doit remporter au moins 5% des suffrages pour obtenir des sièges.

En 2009/2010, la présidente de l'Assemblée de Londres est le vert Darren Johnson, qui a succédé à la travailliste Jeannette Arnold.
