Une automobile Locost est une automobile construite à partir de pièces d'occasions. Ce nom est la contraction de Low-Cost.
Il s'agit d'un mouvement d'origine anglaise, qui consiste à faire sa propre Lotus Seven à partir de vieilles voitures peu onéreuses (Ford Escort). Le mouvement a été fortement développé par la sortie du livre de Ron Champion "build your own sports car for as little as 250 pounds: and race it!". Ce phénomène typique Royaume-Uni s'est ensuite exporté en Australie et aux États-Unis entre autres. Les locosts sont rares en France du fait des politiques d'homologation route sévères. Certains utilisent des kits châssis et carrosseries tout prêts et d'autres l'élaborent de A à Z (plus économique).
