Larimer Mellon (1910 - 1989) fut inspiré par Albert Schweitzer, et fonda l'Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti à Deschapelles en Haïti. L'hôpital continue à ce jour et dessert une population régionale dans la vallée de l'Artibonite qui compte plus de 200.000 personnes.
