James Peebles
Philip James Edwin Peebles, dit Jim Peebles (25 avril 1935-) est un cosmologiste américain d'origine canadienne.
Il naît à Winnipeg dans le Manitoba. Après avoir obtenu son Bachelor of Arts à l'université du Manitoba il poursuit ses études par un doctorat à l'université de Princeton où il travaille encore comme professeur émérite en 2006.
Il fait d'importantes contributions au modèle du Big Bang, il prédit, avec d'autres, l'existence du fond diffus cosmologique, effectue des contributions majeures aux modèles de la nucléosynthèse primordiale, de la matière noire et de l'énergie sombre. Il contribue aux théories sur la structure à grande échelle de l'univers.
