La télévision interactive se base sur plusieurs technologies. Ne pas confondre avec le terme utilisé par microsoft qui signifie Internet Protocol Television.
Plusieurs norme existe actuellement pour obtenir une interactivité proche de celle que permet l'internet: VOD, Numériscope,EPG . Certaine technologie utilise l'information présent dans les EPG, le télétexte ou des fichiers XML. Face aux multiples technologie prorpiétaire mis en jeux il a été proposé 2 standar sous le nom de DVB-MHP et OCAP/tru2way basé sur xml ( schéma XML iTV Production/Broadcast Markup Language (BML)/DVB-HTML). Les technologies actuelles ont pour nom :
