Hatay est une province (il) de Turquie limitrophe de la Syrie. Son chef-lieu est Antioche (en turc Antakya ou Hatay).
La République du Hatay fut créée le 5 septembre 1938 avec l'appui de la France à partir du sandjak d'Alexandrette, qui comprenait également la ville d'Antioche. À la suite de l'accord franco-turc du 23 juin 1939, ce territoire, qui comportait une majorité turque et une minorité syrienne, fut officiellement rattaché à la Turquie le 23 juillet 1939.
Au cours de son existence éphémère, la République du Hatay est censée avoir été le théâtre de l'une des aventures d'Indiana Jones, Indiana Jones et la Dernière Croisade (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, 1989), dont l'action se déroule précisément en 1938.
