Harivaṃśa
Le Harivaṃśa ou lignage de Hari (Vishnu) est une œuvre importante de la littérature sanskrite contenant 16375 vers.
La structure du texte est complexe et certains de ces passages remontent aux Ier ou IIe siècle de notre ère. Pour l'essentiel le texte est issu de deux traditions, celle des pañcalakṣaṇa (les cinq marques) des purana et celle des récits contant la jeunesse de Krishna en tant que bouvier. Il s'agit de la plus ancienne version de la jeunesse de Krishna Gopala, contant notamment ses aventures avec les bouvières ou gopi et le présentant comme un héros tribal.
Traductions
LeHarivaṃśa a connu plusieurs traductions dans les langues vernaculaires indiennes. Il en existe également une traduction en anglais (M. N. Dutt, 1897), et en français (M. A. Langlois, Paris, 1834-35).
Il existe également dans plusieurs langues une version jaïne du 'Harivaṃśa.
