Les Guidelines, en français "lignes directrices", sont des textes émis par des autorités compétentes pour aider un demandeur à se conformer à une réglementation.

On rencontre par exemple des Guidelines dans l'Industrie pharmaceutique, pour aider les laboratoires à satisfaire aux exigences réglementaires pour soumettre un dossier de demande d'autorisation de mise sur le marché (AMM) d'un médicament.

Les guidelines n'ont en général pas un caractère obligatoire.

Anglicisme

Le terme "guideline" est utilisé très couramment, et la traduction française en "lignes directrices" quasi jamais. Notamment parce que ces documents sont souvent rédigés en anglais à l'origine et portent ainsi l'intitulé "Guideline on ..." ("Guideline au sujet de...).
