Alan Hollinghurst est un écrivain britannique.
Biographie
Fils unique d'un banquier, il est né le 26 mai 1954 (1954-05-26) (57 ans) à Stroud dans le Gloucestershire. Étudiant à Oxford, il eut comme colocataire le poète Andrew Motion et fut recompensé par le Newdigate Prize, prix attribué à la poésie. Il a collaboré au Times Literary Supplement.

Un écrivain gay ?
Son premier roman, la Piscine-bibliothèque, fait très rapidement de Hollinghurst l'un des plus célèbres écrivains gays contemporains (même s'il n'aime guère l'étiquette, à ses yeux trop limitative, d'écrivain gay)[1].
L'héritage d'Henry James
Tout comme Le Maître de Colm Toibin, paru la même année et finaliste du Booker Prize, la Ligne de beauté est placée sous les auspices d'Henry James.
