Felix Frankfurter

Felix Frankfurter (né le 15 novembre 1882) était un juge américain siégeant à la Cour suprême des États-Unis. Originaire de New York, il étudia au City College of New York, avant de brillantes études à Harvard. Il fut nommé à la Cour suprême des États-Unis par Franklin Delano Roosevelt le 30 janvier 1939, exerçant cette fonction jusqu'au 28 août 1962. Il fut professeur de droit à l'Harvard Law School, et conseilla Roosevelt pour de nombreuses mesures du New Deal.

Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, en 1943, il rencontre Jan Karski et est informé de la destruction des Juifs d'Europe[1]. Mais bien que Juif lui-même, il lui déclare : « Monsieur l'ambassadeur, je ne vous dis pas que ce jeune homme est en train de mentir. J'ai dit que je suis incapable de le croire. Il y a une différence. » (« Mr. Ambassador, I did not say this young man is lying. I said I am unable to believe him. There is a difference. »)
