Ethan

Ethan (en hébreu : איתן ,prononcé "eytane") est un prénom d'origine hébraïque signifiant "fort", "robuste", mais également " impétueux".

Il est porté par trois personnages de la Bible. L’un est lévite. Il chante et joue de la cymbale pendant le transfert de l’Arche d'alliance à Jérusalem. L’autre, fils de Mahol, est un grand sage d’Israël. Sa sagesse est si grande qu’elle est comparée à celle du roi Salomon. Enfin, le troisième Ethan est l’un des petits-fils de Judas.

COMPLEMENT : (d'après le grand livre des prénoms bibliques de M.A.Ouaknin et Rotnemer) Ethan : en français ; en Hébreu : Etan ou Eitan.

Il y a dans la Bible trois Etan à des époques bien différentes.

Le premier est un petit-fils de Juda (sans s), lui-même fils de Jacob (environ vers 1600 av.JC.). Il est mentionné dans le premier livre des Chroniques, chap. II, verset 6.

Le second est un lévite, un chantre du temps de David. C'est vraisemblablement lui qui a composé le psaume 89. On le trouve dans le premier livre des Chroniques chap. 25, verset 3 sous le nom de Yedantan (ceci environ 10000 avant JC.).

Enfin, le troisième n'est pas un fils de Mahol le Sage. Il est mentionné dans le 1er livre des Rois, chap 5, verset 11.
