Esther Hautzig (née Rudomin, le 18 octobre 1930 à Vilnius, alors en Pologne) est un écrivain américain d'origine juive qui vit aux États-Unis depuis 1947.
Avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la famille d'Esther était prospère ; elle s'est fait arrêter en 1940 et déporter en Sibérie. Leur exil a duré cinq ans. Par la suite, la famille est partie s'établir aux États-Unis. Esther s'est mariée avec le pianiste Walter Hautzig, qu'elle a rencontré lors de la traversée en bateau vers l'Amérique.
Elle a écrit plusieurs livres, dont la majorité raconte directement ou indirectement sa vie lorsqu'elle était enfant. Elle a aussi fait de la traduction, du yiddish vers l'anglais.
Son livre le plus célèbre, La Steppe infinie, a été finaliste au National Book Award et a remporté des prix littéraires américains. Il a été traduit en plusieurs langues.
Ses deux enfants, David et Deborah, écrivent aussi des livres pour enfants.
