Eric Knight (né en 1897 dans le Yorkshire et mort en 1943) est un auteur anglais pour la jeunesse, créateur du chien Lassie.
La mort de son père ayant dispersé la famille, il ne retrouva sa mère qu'en 1912, aux États-Unis où elle s'était installée. Après la Première Guerre, il travailla pour des revues et pour le cinéma. Il vivait dans une ferme en Pennsylvanie quand sa chienne préférée lui inspira l'histoire de Lassie, chien fidèle, qui eut un grand succès et fut portée à l'écran.
Il écrivit d'autres romans et des recueils de nouvelles de littérature d'enfance et de jeunesse. Toutes portent la marque de son humour typique : celui de son Yorkshire natal.
Eric Knight est mort en 1943 à bord d'un avion militaire américain.
