Dope Dogs

Dope Dogs est le huitième album de George Clinton avec son groupe P-Funk All-Stars sorti chez George Clinton Enterprises en 1998.

À l'origine, cet album était déjà sorti d'abord sous les noms de groupe : Parliament-Funkadelic & P-Funk All-Stars en 1995 chez Hot Hands Records, mais des morceaux (Follow the Leader, Lost Dog, Dopey Dope Dog & Gettin' Dogged) que contenait cet album ont été remplacés par des inédits (Pepe, Back Up Against the Wall, Pack of Wild Dogs & My Dog) sur celui de 1998. Il existe aussi une version japonaise, avec un morceau Kibbles and Bits qui ne figure pas dans les deux autres versions.

Cet album a été très mal distribué pour plusieurs raisons. Pourtant ils contiennent des chansons de styles variés du rock (comme Dog Star (Fly On)) jusqu'à hip-hop (Tales That Wag the Dog), en passant aussi du rap (Help, Scottie, Help (I'm Tweaking and I Can't Beam up)), tout en gardant l'esprit du Funk. Dans la version US, A U.S. Customs Coast Guard Dope Dog (Hyper Mix) est un remix de U.S. Customs Coast Guard Dope Dog où on entend George Clinton raper en accéléré par rapport à l'original et le fameux morceau instrumental électro-funk-rock Sick 'em surprend avec ses mélodies. Ces trois albums (d'ailleurs les pochettes sont semblables, juste que celui de 1998 le nom du groupe Parliament-Funkadelic est remplacé par le nom de George Clinton), malgré les différences par des chansons qui ont été retirées pour les remplacer par d'autres, ont gardé le même univers riche de styles. A savoir que Bobby Gillespie, un des membres de Primal Scream, a participé sur une chanson de l'album US de 1995 : Lost Dog.

Ces albums n'ont rien à voir avec celui sorti en 1993 chez One Nation : Dope Dog, qui, pourtant, contient quelques morceaux d'origine, fruits de ces quelques perles inclus dans ces 3 albums.
