Parti unioniste démocrate

Le Democratic Unionist Party (DUP, en français, Parti unioniste démocrate) est un parti politique britannique qui se présente en Irlande du Nord pour défendre les intérêts de la communauté protestante, sur une base violemment opposée à tout accord avec les catholiques et trouvant les autres Unionistes modérés.

Fondé en 1970 par le révérend Ian Paisley, il résulte d'une transformation du Parti unioniste protestant. Ce dernier qui en est le président, a été élu sans discontinuer au Parlement européen (un des trois seuls sièges de l'Irlande du Nord), de 1979 à 2004, date à laquelle il a été remplacé par Jim Allister, de son parti.

Aux élections de mai 2005, il remporte un record de neuf sièges de députés à Westminster (sur 18), au détriment de l'UUP. Par rapport aux élections de 2001, il gagne 4 sièges de députés, obtient 241 856 voix (33,7 % du total en Irlande du Nord), soit +11,2.
