D3o est une matière orange commercialisée par l'entreprise britannique du même nom qui présente la particularité de changer de comportement mécanique selon que l'on l'excite lentement ou rapidement. Manipulé lentement, il ressemble à de la pâte à modeler mais soumis à un choc brutal, il devient très rigide.
Ce phénomène, appelé rhéo-épaississement, est ici lié à de la dilatance dans ce matériau polymère.
Ce produit est aujourd'hui incorporé dans des équipements de protection principalement pour les tenues de sports (motocross, ski, descente, etc), les tenues de combat militaires ainsi que dans les protections des smartphones, tablettes et notebooks.
