Craig Thompson est un dessinateur et scénariste de bande dessinée américain né en 1975 à Traverse City, Michigan.

Sa biographie officielle mentionne qu'il a grandi à la campagne (dans le Wisconsin) en conduisant des tracteurs, emballant du foin, nourrissant le bétail, récoltant les baies et les racines de ginseng, et cassant des pierres. Toujours d'après cette biographie, il aurait travaillé dans un Mc Donald's et dans un magasin de bricolage. Il n'a pas de voiture, mais un vieux vélo et un skateboard orné d'un crâne.

Il vit actuellement à Portland, dans l'Oregon.

Son premier livre « Adieu Chunky Rice » lui valut en 1999 le Harvey Award du meilleur espoir (Best New Talent). Son œuvre la plus connue est à l'heure actuelle le gigantesque Blankets, un «graphic novel» de 600 pages qui remporta aux États-Unis trois Harvey Award, deux Eisner Award (Meilleur album - matériel inédit et Meilleur scénariste/dessinateur) et en France le prestigieux prix de la critique décerné par l'ACBD.
