Control Data Corporation est une entreprise américaine pionnière dans la fabrication de supercalculateurs. Elle a été créée en 1957 à Minneapolis Saint Paul (twin cities) dans le Minnesota (États-Unis) par des scientifiques américains issus des centres de recherche de la Navy, dont le célèbre Seymour Cray qui fonda en 1972 la société Cray Research et William Norris.
La gamme des supercalculateurs superscalaires qu'il créa fut appelée CYBER. Ces cybers fonctionnaient grâce à des systèmes d'exploitation appelés NOS : Network Operating System.
Les différents gammes furent les Cyber 6600/7600, Cyber 170, Cyber 180 et une gamme orientée calcul vectoriel : les cyber 200 prolongées chez ETA. Une dernière catégorie de processeurs avait développée : les AFP, qui étaient des processeurs spécialisés pilotés depuis les Cyber 180.
L'histoire de cette équipe de recherche de la Navy, passée quelque temps chez Sperry, commence avec une première machine de 48 bits conçue par Seymour Cray : le CDC 1604 livrée en 1959. Une version 16 bits sort en 1960 : le CDC 160A. Sur la base du CDC 1604 allait naître la gamme CDC 3000 au début des années 1960.
L'entreprise est à l'origine du logiciel de sauvegarde NetBackup appelé dans sa première version AWBUS qui deviendra Backup Plus.
