Le terme collectif définit les actions et les choses auxquelles il est appliqué, comme étant réalisé par, ou destiné à, un groupe de personnes.
- On parle d'action collective, lorsqu'un groupe, organisé ou non, réalise une action particulière. Un collectif peut être organisé en association loi de 1901, ce qui lui donne des droits (possibilité d'agir en justice en tant que personne morale...) ;
- en musique, un collectif de musique est une réunion d'artiste de divers groupes de musiques dans un nouveau groupe temporaire ;
- en sport, une activité est dite collective lorsqu'elle ne peut se jouer qu'en équipe ;
- en grammaire, le collectif est une forme de nombre grammatical.
