Séquence codante

La séquence codante (aussi appelée CDS pour Coding DNA Sequence) est la partie d'un gène qui, après avoir été transcrite en ARNm, est traduite en protéine. Elle ne représente donc qu'une partie du gène duquel elle provient, de même que de l'ARNm dans laquelle elle est inscrite.

Dans l'ADN, une séquence codante commence par le codon ATG et se termine par un codon stop c'est-à-dire TAA, TAG, ou TGA.
