Clytia
Clytia (ou Clytie) était une nymphe grecque, fille d'Océan et de Tethys. Elle fut aimée d'Hélios (ou d'Apollon dans les Métamorphoses d'Ovide), mais fut supplantée par Leucothoé. Elle en référa alors au père de cette dernière, Orchame, qui punit sa fille pour l'avoir déshonorée en l'enfouissant dans le sable. Mais au lieu de permettre à Clytia de regagner l'amour d'Hélios, la mort de Leucothoé ne lui rapporta que le ressentiment de celui-ci. Désespérée, elle s'assit nue sur les rochers et y demeura durant neuf jours, sans eau ni nourriture, tournée vers le soleil, Hélios/Apollon. Jaunie et brunie par son éclat, elle fut métamorphosée en tournesol.
