Institut de mathématiques Clay
L'Institut de mathématiques de Clay (CMI) a été fondé en septembre 1998 par Landon Clay, homme d'affaires de Boston (Président Directeur Général de East Hill Management), et son épouse Lavinia Clay avec un but : promouvoir et disséminer la connaissance mathématique dans le monde, en instaurant un système de primes pour les chercheurs mathématiciens.
- Premier président de CMI : Arthur Jaffe professeur à l'Université Harvard.
- Premier comité consultatif scientifique : Alain Connes, Arthur Jaffe, Andrew Wiles, et Edward Witten.
- Président actuel : Jim Carlson.
- Comité consultatif scientifique actuel : Jim Carlson, Simon Donaldson, Gregory Margulis, Richard Melrose, Yum-Pinces Siu, et Andrew Wiles.
Conjectures et prix
En 2000, sept problèmes, correspondant à autant de conjectures, voient leur solution dotée d'une récompense d'un million de dollars chacun. Ce sont les problèmes du prix du millénaire, qui incluent le célèbre P-NP de l'informatique théorique.
