Chuanqi est le titre d'un recueil de récits écrit par Pei Xing dans la seconde moitié du IXe siècle ap. J.-C., qui a donné par la suite son nom à ce genre littéraire.
Les chuanqi sont des récits courts en langue classique, de l'époque Tang.
Ils racontaient à l'origine des histoires extraordinaires et se sont tournés ensuite vers de banales histoires humaines.
Certains sont de très courtes nouvelles, d'autres, comme la Biographie de Li Wa sont de petits romans.
Ces récits en prose classique se sont répandus largement au point qu'ils ont été repris par la suite en langue populaire.
