Le S&W .38 Chiefs Special avec crosse en bois et finition bronzée
Le Smith & Wesson Model 36 ou Smith & Wesson .38 Chiefs Special est un revolver de 5 coups en calibre .38 Special avec une carcasse J. Le nom de Chiefs Special lui a été donné en honneur de la conférence IACP (International Association of Chiefs of Police) d’octobre 1950 à Colorado Springs au Colorado, date de sa présentation. La dénomination Model 36 n’est apparue qu’en 1957 lors de l’introduction de la nouvelle numérotation des Modèles chez Smith & Wesson. Il est l’ancêtre de tous les modèles ultracompact en carcasse J des séries Model 60 (acier inoxydable), AirLite (aluminium, titane, scandium).
Diffusion
Compact et léger, il est souvent porté comme arme de secours par les policiers ou les gardes du corps. Les citoyens américains le choisissent pour la défense personnelle car il est fiable et simple d'utilisation. L'apparition des Glock 26/Glock 27 et autres Kahr K9 en limitent les ventes depuis la fin des années 1990.
