A440 (La 440) est la tonalité de 440 Hz utilisée comme hauteur de référence dans la musique. Cette note est le La (noté aussi La3 ou A4) situé au-dessus du Do central (C4).
Une conférence internationale en 1939 a recommandé que le La au-dessus du Do central soit accordée à 440 cycles par seconde (Hz). Cette norme a été acceptée par l’Organisation internationale de normalisation (ou ISO - International Organization for Standardization) en 1955 en tant que ISO 16. Elle sert maintenant de fréquence de référence dans l’ajustement de pianos, de violons et d’autres instruments.
Le La 440 est également la note la plus accessible aux personnes ayant l’oreille absolue.
Cette note est utilisée comme tonalité dans certains systèmes téléphoniques.
A440 est aussi le nom de l'extra-terrestre dans le conte musical Emilie Jolie.
