Kanpur est une ville industrielle d'Inde située sur les bords du Gange. C'est l'agglomération la plus peuplée de l'état du Uttar Pradesh (devant la capitale Lucknow) avec plus de 4 130 000 habitants (au recensement de 2001), population répartie sur une superficie de 1 640 km².
