Historique

Le 8 mars 1966 se tint l'Assemblée Constitutive du premier club du Fifty-One International, celui de Waterloo (Belgique). Le 21 octobre naissait officiellement le Fifty-One International, le premier club service fondé sur le Continent européen. De par son origine il est essentiellement implanté en Europe.

Aspiration

Les membres Fondateurs voulurent que de Waterloo, lieu de la Bataille de Waterloo - l'une des plus meurtrières de l'histoire - parte un appel à la tolérance et à la fraternité, message de paix et de solidarité humaine. Le Fifty-One s'est voulu international car les hommes de bonne volonté sont de partout, l'amitié ne connaissant pas de frontière.

En dehors de toute considération philosophique, raciale ou politique, le Fifty-One International oeuvre pour une meilleure compréhension entre les hommes, en les aidant à mieux se connaître et à s'estimer dans le service de l'idéal commun.

Les clubs Fifty-One organisent des activités pour soutenir financièrement les oeuvres sociales de son service d’aide à la communauté.

Spécificité

La moyenne d'âge des membres d'un club ne peut pas dépasser 51 ans et le nombre de membres par club est limité à 51.

Organisation

Au niveau international, le Fifty-One International est organisé par districts qui fédèrent les clubs d'un pays ou d'une partie d'un pays. Le siège social du Fifty-One International se trouve à Bruxelles-Anderlecht, Avenue Victor Olivier 6, en Belgique; tous les services administratifs y sont logés. Le “FIFTY-ONE DISTRICT 101″ couvre la partie sud de la Belgique. C’est un des plus importants districts du mouvement avec plus de 54 Clubs et près d’un millier d’adhérents.

Chaque pays en district comprend un certain nombre de Clubs gentlemen, ladies et juniors.

Plusieurs organisations internationales fonctionnent au sein du Fifty-One International:

  • la FONDATION FIFTY-ONE s’occupe principalement d’échanges d’enfants et de jeunes entre les Districts,
  • l’ASBL FIFTY-ONE FRIENDSHIP WORLWIDE qui s’est fixée comme but “servir la paix en ignorant les frontières” et dont les actions sont en conséquence principalement destinées à des pays en voie de développement.
