Disquette de démarrage

Une disquette de démarrage (en anglais Bootdisk) est une disquette spécialement conçue pour le rédémarrage d'un système d'exploitation.

Elle permet par exemple de

  • d'installer un nouveau système
  • démarrer un système dont le disque dur principal est défectueux.

Avec la possibilité de démarrer les systèmes sur d'autres supports comme les CD-Rom, l'usage d'une disquette de démarrage est devenu beaucoup plus rare. Le recours à d'anciennes disquettes de démarrage reste toutefois pratique pour certaines opérations (mise à jour de BIOS, restauration Ghost (informatique)).
