Zihuatanejo est la quatrième plus grande ville de l'État de Guerrero, au Mexique. Politiquement, elle est rattachée à la municipalité de Zihuatanejo de Azueta mais on se réfère communément aux deux villes sous le nom de Zihuatanejo. Située dans une baie bien protégée sur la côte de l'océan Pacifique, à environ 240 km au nord-ouest d'Acapulco, la ville s'est développée grâce au tourisme apporté par la station balnéaire d'Ixtapa, située à 5 km et qui fait partie de la même municipalité. Zihuatanejo a gardé son aspect traditionnel de village de pêcheurs mais s'est considérablement développée depuis les années 1970. En 2005, elle comptait 62 376 habitants.
