Zharkent

Zharkent (Жаркент), anciennement connue sous le nom de Panfilov jusque 1991 (Панфилов) et de Dzharkent jusque 1942 (Джаркент), est une ville de la province d'Almaty au Kazakhstan et le centre administratif du district de Panfilov. Elle est située le long de la rivière Usek, à 40 kilomètres à l'ouest de la frontière avec la Chine.

En 1998, sa population s'élevait à 34 100 habitants.

La ville fut fondée en 1882 sous le nom de Dzharkent. De 1942 à 1991, elle fut nommée d'après le héros soviétique de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Ivan Panfilov qui mourut en 1941.
