Wim Polak est un homme politique néerlandais du parti travailliste, le PvdA. Il fut bourgmestre d'Amsterdam de 1977 à 1983 et Secrétaire d'État aux affaires intérieures de 1973 à 1977.
Biographie
Wim Polak a grandi dans une famille de commerçants juifs d'Amsterdam. Ses parents ont été assassinés au cours de la guerre. Après la guerre, il a été journaliste chez «Het Vrije Volk» (La Nation).
Dans le cabinet Uyl, il a nommé secrétaire d'État des finances des autorités locales. Polak s'est alors engagé pour l'amélioration de la position financière des grandes villes. Il a ensuite été pendant six ans bourgmestre de la commune de Amsterdam. Il a alors été confronté notamment à des problèmes autour d'une affaire d'immeubles squattés mais aussi face à l'émeute du couronnement de la reine Beatrix.
Il est décédé à l'âge de 75 ans à son domicile à Ilpendam.
