Shinar, Schinear ou Sinhar (en hébreu שִׁנְעָר Šin`ar, en grec Σεννααρ Sennaar) est un lieu mentionné par la Bible en Mésopotamie dont la localisation exacte est inconnue. Ce nom viendrait de la déformation de Shene nahar (« deux rivières ») ou de Shene or (« deux cités »).
Ce nom apparait huit fois dans la Bible hébraïque, ainsi que dans le livre des Jubilés. Le verset 10:10 du livre de la Genèse mentionne que Nimrod régna d'abord sur « Babel, Erec, Accad et Calné, au pays de Schinar. » Le verset 11:2 précise que la tour de Babel fut construite sur le site de la plaine de Shinar après le Déluge. L'en droit est également mentionné dans la Genèse (14:1,9), dans le livre de Josué (7:21), le livre d'Isaïe (11:11), le livre de Daniel (1:2) et le livre de Zacharie (5:11) comme un synonyme pour la Babylonie.
Le nom égyptien pour la Mésopotamie ou le royaume de Babylone est Sngr (Sangara), identifié avec le Sanhar des lettres d'Amarna par Sayce.
