Le pool de l'or fut créé en 1961 avec le plan Kennedy et fut dissous en mars 1968 du fait d'une spéculation trop forte. Il regroupait les principales banques centrales mondiales qui, décidées à maintenir la parité or à 35 dollars l'once, décidèrent de coordonner leurs actions en intervenant sur les marchés, comme le voulait le système de l’étalon-or.
