Llewelyn Powys

Llewelyn Powys (13 août 1884 Dorchester – 2 décembre 1939, Clavadel, hameau de Davos) est un écrivain britannique. Il est le frère de John Cowper Powys et de Theodore Francis Powys (en).

Biographie

Llewelyn Powys était le fils d’un pasteur gallois. Il passe son enfance à Montacute (en), Somerset et étudie à Sherborne School et à Corpus Christi College (Université de Cambridge). Il se rend aux États-Unis en 1909, invité à donner des conférences à la Philadelphia Society for the extension of University teaching, où son frère John officiait depuis 1905. Il contracte la tuberculose pendant ce séjour. Il voyage ensuite, vivant quelque temps en Suisse, puis se fixe de 1914 à 1919 chez son frère William près de Gilgil (en) en Afrique orientale britannique (aujourd’hui au Kenya). Ce séjour consacré à l’agriculture se révéla fécond pour son œuvre à venir.
