Light sport aircraft

Light sport aircraft (LSA) est une catégorie administrative d'aéronefs définie depuis 2003 aux États-Unis.

Les aéronefs entrant dans cette catégorie doivent avoir une vitesse maximale de 120 nœuds (222 km/h) et un poids maximum au décollage de 1320 livres (600 kg ou 650kg en cas d'aéronef amphibie). Les autres limitations de l'équipement sont :

  • moteur à piston,
  • cabine non pressurisée,
  • hélice à pas fixe (ou pas variable au sol),
  • une ou deux places
  • train d'atterrissage fixe.

Le règlement FAA applicable a été adopté en 2009 et en grande partie par l'EASA probablement dans la classe CS-LSA. Un certain nombre de modèles actuels disposent donc en Europe d'une autorisation de vol provisoire.
