Bdale Garbee (de son vrai nom Barksdale Garbee) est une personnalité de la communauté du logiciel libre.
Il est actuellement directeur des systèmes d'information GNU/Linux chez Hewlett-Packard, président de l'association Software in the Public Interest et membre du conseil d'administration de la fondation Linux.
Debian GNU/Linux
Il contribue au logiciel libre dès 1979 et s'implique dans les développements de la distribution Debian durant des années, puis en devient chef de projet d'avril 2002 à avril 2003. Il remporta les élections[1] en devançant les autres candidats, Raphael Hertzog et Branden Robinson[2]. Il se représente aux élections de 2003 face à trois autres candidats, Branden Robinson, Moshe Zadka et Martin Michlmayr, mais ce dernier remporte l'élection[3].
En Mars 2011, il accepte de rejoindre le conseil de la Fondation d'administration et préside son comité consultatif technique du projet FreedomBox[4].
Distinction
En septembre 2008, Bdale Garbee reçoit un Lutèce d'Or en tant que personnalité du Libre de l'année 2008[5].
