Henry de Hastings (1235-1269) fut fait baron en 1264 par Simon V de Montfort, sixième comte de Leicester. Il fut à la tête de la ville de Londres pendant la bataille de Lewes, où il fut capturé, puis il a combattu à la bataille d'Evesham. Il a résisté au roi Henri III d'Angleterre à Kenilworth et, suite au diktat de Kenilworth, pris la direction des derniers opposants du parti des barons lors de leur dernier combat dans l'Isle of Eley, qui prit fin en juillet 1267.
Bien qu'il soit connu sous le nom de baron, son titre ne fut pas admis par la couronne. Par conséquent, son fils John Hastings est souvent considéré comme le premier baron de la famille.
Henry était le fils unique de Sir Henry de Hastings et d'Ada de Huntingdon, l'une des quatre filles de David d'Écosse, comte d'Huntingdon et Maude de Chester.
