Formé en 1998, le groupe est composé de quatre sœurs écossaises: Fiona Johnson (violon / guitare / chœurs / cornemuse), Kirsty Johnson (accordéon /chant), Amy Johnson (batterie/ percussions / chœurs) et Mairi Johnson (claviers / chœurs).
GiveWay a déjà effectué de nombreuses tournées au Royaume-Uni, en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. Full Steam Ahead Leur premier album est sorti en 2003 et a été suivi en 2005 par Inspired, qui ont tous deux bénéficié d'une large reconnaissance internationale.
En 2008, le groupe enregistre un single The Water is Wide produit par Brian Hurren de Runrig. Le dernier album (Lost in this song) est (comme les deux autres) produit par Phil Cunningham.
Musiques
Les chansons et morceaux instrumentaux de Giveway sont très largement inspirées de mélodies traditionnelles écossaises, et réarrangées avec beaucoup de dynamisme. Quelques morceaux originaux ont également été composés par Fiona Johnson dans le dernier album.
