Dennis Stanford est le chef de la Division de l'archéologie et directeur du programme de paléo-indienne au Musée national d'histoire naturelle de la Smithsonian Institution.
Avec le professeur Bruce Bradley, Stanford est connu pour avoir défendu l'hypothèse d'un peuplement solutréen de l'Amérique du Nord. Il soutient que la technologie des outils de pierre de la culture solutréenne dans l'Europe préhistorique peut avoir influencé le développement de la culture Clovis.
