Craven est un district du Yorkshire du Nord, en Angleterre, centré sur la ville marchande de Skipton.
Étymologie
Le nom Craven pourrait dérivé du mot pré-celtique cravona, signifiant région rocheuse[1], ou du celtique, proche du gallois craf, ou ail[2]. En effet, au moyen âge la région était connue pour son ail des ours.
Frontières
Avant que Craven ne devienne le nom du district éponyme[2], cette région a été délimité par des frontières diverses suivant que l'on s'y intéresse sur des plans administratifs, religieux ou de taxation[3].
Villes
La plus grande ville de Craven est Skipton. Les autres centres urbains d'importance sont High Bentham (en), Settle, en:Grassington, et les grands villages de Sutton-in-Craven (en) et Cross Hills (en) avec Glusburn (en).
