Le Commonwealth CA-12 est un avion de chasse australien.
Histoire
Au début de la guerre du Pacifique, l'armée de l'air australienne (la Royal Australian Air Force) n'était équipée que de deux groupes de Brewster Buffalo. Devant la difficulté d'obtenir rapidement des renforts du Royaume Uni, il fut décidé de construire un avion de chasse intérimaire national en attendant.
La construction de ce qui fut le "Boomerang" fut entreprise. Il reprenait beaucoup de composants du CAC "Wirraway". Ce dernier étant dérivé du North American NA-16 (le prototype du célèbre T-6) dont l'Australie avait acquis la construction sous licence.
Il en résultat un chasseur robuste avec une bon taux de montée, mais une vitesse un peu faible et une autonomie réduite. Il fut utilisé par la suite en appui feu au sol.
Caractéristiques
Variantes construites : 105 CA-12, 95 CA-13 et 49 CA-19. 1 prototype de CA-14A construit avec un turbocompresseur mais il fut abandonné lorsque la RAAF reçu des "Spitfire".

- Vitesse maxi : 474 km/h à 7000 ft (2320 m), 437 km/h au niveau de la mer.
- Plafond opérationnel : 8845 m. Autonomie : 1490 km à 304 km/h et à 4575 m.
- Armement :
- 1 canon Hispano de 20 mm et 2 mitrailleuses Browning de 0.303 pouces (7,7 mm) dans chaque aile.
