Christopher New est le fondateur du département philosophie de l'Université de Hong Kong en 1969, où il a ensuite enseigné pendant plusieurs années.
Il est aussi auteur de séries de romans historiques appelées The China Coast Trilogy, traduites en de nombreuses langues différentes.
