Ban Zhao (chinois, 班昭, Wade-Giles, Pan Chao, pinyin, Bān Zhāo, Anling, 45–Shaanxi, 116) était une mémorialiste, poétesse et intellectuelle chinoise connue pour son prénom social Huiban (惠班) ou Vénérable Madame Cao (曹大家).
Elle était la fille du célèbre historien Ban Biao et la petite sœur du général Ban Chao et de l'historien Ban Gu, auteur du Livre des Han. Elle finit ce livre après la mort de son frère par empoisonnement.
Ban Zhao se maria avec Cao Shishu à l'âge de 14 ans et écrivit Leçons féminines, un livre où elle conseillait aux femmes d'être soumises. Une théorie moderne dit que le livre n'est qu'un guide pour enseigner aux femmes jeunes à éviter des scandales pour devenir des douairières. Elle écrivit aussi des poèmes et des essais[1].
