Synopsis
Clay Jensen est un jeune lycéen californien timide. Un jour, en rentrant du lycée, Clay trouve une boite au bas de sa porte. En l'ouvrant, il remarque que c'est une boite à chaussures contenant 13 cassettes ayant étés enregistrés par Hannah Baker, sa camarade de classe pour qui il avait le béguin. Cette dernière s'est récemment suicidée. En regardant bien au fond, il remarque qu'il y à une lettre où Hannah lui demande de faire passer les cassettes aux personnes étant impliquées dans son suicide. Étant toujours amoureux d'elle, Clay va accomplir cette mission afin que les 13 personnes de la liste reçoivent les cassettes à temps, mais tout se complique quand Clay découvre qu'il fait partie des 13 personnes étant impliquées dans son suicide. Clay est stupéfait d'apprendre qu'il est impliqué dans le suicide d'Hannah.

Le 8 février 2011, Universal Studios Hollywood déclare qu'il y aura bien un film adapté du roman. Universal confirme aussi que ce sera Selena Gomez qui incarnera le rôle de Hannah Baker. Selon les rumeurs, Matt Lanter serait pressenti pour incarner Justin Foley et les acteurs, Taylor Lautner et Logan Lerman seraient tout les deux pressentis pour incarner Clay Jensen. Jay Asher sera le réalisateur du film. Le tournage du film commencera en Mai 2012.
