Ylem

Ylem est le nom donné par Aristote à la substance fondamentale d’où procédait toute matière.

Le terme a été repris au XXe siècle par George Gamow (physicien d’origine russe émigré aux États-Unis en 1936) pour désigner l’œuf primordial, la gouttelette de matière condensée d’une densité et d’une température extrêmement élevées qui, d’après Georges Lemaître (chanoine et cosmologiste belge d’entre les deux guerres) aurait donné naissance à l’univers. Ces considérations préludèrent à l’actuelle théorie décrivant la genèse de l’univers, le Big Bang.

C'est également le nom d'une œuvre du compositeurs allemand Karlheinz Stockhausen et d'un album du groupe de Black Metal Dark Fortress
