Yavné

Yabné ou Yavné (en hébreu: יבנה, en arabe: يبنة Yibnah;) est une ville du centre d'Israël. Sa population s'élevait à 31.800 habitants en 2001, d'après le bureau central des statistiques d'Israël.

Histoire

Après la destruction du second Temple de Jérusalem par les Romains en l'an 70, Yohanan ben Zakkaï obtint de ceux-ci que le Sanhédrin soit déplacé à Yavné (que les Romains appelaient Iamnia). Plusieurs yeshivot se développèrent dans la ville. On voit là l'origine du judaïsme rabbinique.

Les Croisés construisirent un château à Yavné en 1141. La Seigneurie d'Ibelin s'y installa, au cœur du Royaume de Jérusalem avant d'être conquise par Saladin en 1187.

Plus tard, un village arabe appelé Yibna existait avant 1948 et fut vidé de sa population au cours de la première guerre israélo-arabe. La ville israélienne moderne de Yavné fut construite à proximité de ce site.

Jumelage

Yavné est également jumelée avec la Ville du Raincy en Seine Saint Denis depuis 2006.
