William Nicolson (1655-1727) était un prélat et bibliographe anglais.
Né à Plumbland dans le Cumberland, il visita les principales bibliothèques de l'Allemagne. Il fut successivement évêque de Carlisle, archevêque de Londonderry, puis de Cashel.
On lui doit :
- la Bibliographie historique de l'Angleterre, Londres, 1690-99 ;
- la Bibliographie historique de l'Écosse, 1702 ;
- la Bibliographie historique de l'Irlande, 1724,
- Leges Marchiarum, 1705 et rééditées en 1747 ;
- Dissertatio de jure feudali veterum Saxonam (dans les Leges anglo-saxonicæ de Wilkins, 1721).
