The Cleftones est un groupe de doo-wop américain, originaire de New York (quartier du Queens) et formé en 1953. Ils signent avec George Goldner en 1955 et ont tout de suite du succès avec leurs premier single. Il est notable de constater que les Cleftones ont réussi à garder une certaine unité dans leur groupe malgré les années, alors que d'autres étaient constamment en bute au problème du manque de constance des membres de leur groupe. Leur chanson Little girl of mine a fait partie de la BO du film Il était une fois le Bronx de Robert De Niro.
2 anecdotes :
- Les Cleftones ont changé de manager en 15 minutes : convoqués chez le directeur de leur maison de disques, ils ont été avisés de leur changement de manager au profit d'un italo-américain portant costumes sur mesure et bagues à tous les doigts ! Leur manager initial a osé exprimer son désaccord mais, après un bref entretien avec le nouveau manager qui était aussi un autodidacte de la prévision astrale, il est revenu sur sa décision et pour ménager sa santé que le voyant autodidacte lui prévoyait chancelante s'il s'obstinait dans le management, il a décidé de prendre le large !
- Durant les années 60, les Cleftones ont été contactés par le manager des Drifters qui cherchait à créer ds nouveaux Drifters, mais les Cleftones ont refusé l'invitation !
